Having an electric scooter is undoubtedly fun. However, if you want to make the most of your purchase, you should carefully select an e-scooter which meets your needs and requirements. But with such a huge selection of products on the market, this is not always easy. If you want to buy your first own electric scooter and don’t know what to take into consideration, please read our short guide.
Focus on a purpose
The first thing you should ask yourself before buying an e-scooter is how you plan to use it, and what types of terrain you will mostly ride on? If you are planning on using your scooter on smooth terrain, most models will be suitable. However, if you want to ride on bumpy roads and off-road trails, look for a scooter with a sturdier suspension. Another essential question is how far you want to be able to travel without charging your e-scooter. The longer your rides will be, a bigger battery will be required. However, you should keep in mind that electric scooters which allow for longer rides are usually heavier as their battery is bigger, not only in term of capacity but also size.
Identify your special needs
A perfect electric scooter should always be able to be with you and reflect your lifestyle. If you are an active adventurer, imagine what type of activities you do make using your e-scooter – some of them may probably require it to be more powerful. What do we mean? If you, e.g., want to climb hills and ride in demanding terrain, go for a model with a higher voltage system. Another thing that you should take into consideration is whether you need a portable scooter. There are a number of great foldable scooters which can be carried and stored easily.
Choose the appropriate model
Once you have identified your needs, look at your weight. If you are a heavy rider, choose an e-scooter which is suitable for you. If the e-scooter of your choice is not made for heaver people, you may not be able to fully benefit from it, e.g., the scooter can ride slowly, have poor acceleration or even break down in the middle of your ride.
Agree on a budget
Once you know what to take into consideration while choosing an electric scooter, try to find a model that matches your budget. Keep in mind that when it comes to e-scooters, the price usually goes in the same direction as the level of quality, and some budget e-scooters have a limited number of features and can’t be used on all terrains. It is, of course, up to you to decide, but investing in a more developed e-scooter can turn out to be a better choice from the long-term perspective.
