Irrespective of where one lives and how and where one grows these herbs, growing perennial herbs is a great idea to grow perennial herbs. Here is just a short list of reasons why one should consider growing some perennial herbs at home:

  • Perennial herbs, unlike annual ones, can be planted once. These herbs yield not just for one season but several years.
  • Many perennial herbs are straightforward to grow and need minimal input from the gardener.
  • These herbs can also help in controlling pests. They help in compelling, repelling, confusing, and distracting specific problems.
  • These often attract wildlife, including pollinators and predatory insects.
  • Numerous perennial herbs are excellent for culinary use. These can also add depth of flavor to a wide variety of dishes.
  • Several herbs also have medicinal properties, which can create a range of herbal remedies.

Some of the perennial herbs that one can grow in the garden are:

Lavender

This is known for its calming effects. Lavender is a bushy perennial with vivid purple flowers and a strong fragrance. The oil from this herb also serves as a disinfectant and a deodorizer. This also has medicinal value. It helps in relieving the stress of an individual. Lavender also attracts bees and butterflies, while the oil repels mosquitoes.

Rosemary

Rosemary is a woody evergreen perennial herb with blue and purple flowers and a sweet aroma. This is commonly used as a seasoning for poultry, lamb, stews, and soups. One can also pick some extra to make a natural all-purpose cleaning spray. This is the best perennial herbs zone 7.

Tarragon

Thyme

One can use this herb for savory seasoning for soups, meats, and vegetables. This is considered a low-growing perennial, with small leaves and thin, woody stems. This also has a pleasant clover-like flavor. There are as many as 50 varieties of thyme. The most common are French and English thyme, lemon thyme, and caraway thyme.
