The wonderful world of casinos, eh? Over the last few centuries casino establishments have got progressively bigger and more decadent, to the point where nowadays some of the largest buildings in the world are brick and mortar casino establishments. Isn’t it funny to think, therefore, that the world’s first casino only appeared in the 17th century, and casinos weren’t really normalized until the 1800s, and even this was only in Central Europe.
Oh how much has changed since then, however, with places like Las Vegas in Nevada basically being built in order to support virtual casino gambling. Las Vegas is undeniably the gambling capital of the world, and as a result there are several outrageously sized casinos there. In fact, most of the casinos in which one has to play at least once in a lifetime are located in Las Vegas, but enough of that, keep reading for a few casinos in which one has to play at least once in a lifetime.
Hotel de Paris
Funnily enough the world famous and incredibly decadent Hotel de Paris casino isn’t actually located in Paris at all, rather in the European gambling capital of Monte Carlo. The history of Monte Carlo is interesting, and deeply intertwined with the politics around gambling in the 1800s. Basically the casino owners across Central Europe ended up getting too rich for the authority’s liking, and they banned casinos in everywhere but Monte Carlo.
Regardless, the Hotel de Paris is located in Monte Carlo, and it is one of the original casinos in which one has to play at least once in a lifetime. Don’t believe us? Just check out films such as James Bond’s Never Say Never or Golden Eye, both of which had scenes shot in this legendary casino.
MGM Grand Casino
If you have ever been to Las Vegas you almost certainly would have seen the MGM Grand Casino, and that is mainly because of its absolutely outrageous size. Seriously, the MGM Grand Casino covers a monumental 171,500 square feet, and it also has 139 table games, and an absolutely ridiculous 2,500 slot machines.
And if you want any more of an example of how decadent modern super casinos can be we must only point you in the direction of all the added extras that come with the MGM Grand Casino. It has its own massive sporting arena, for instance, as well as various shops, hotel suites, swimming pools and sports complexes. How on earth do they fit it all in!?
Caesar’s Palace
Caesar’s Palace has become one of the most visually striking casinos in the world, mainly as a result of its strict adherence to an Ancient Roman aesthetic that is pulled off with devastatingly good results.
It also has 25 different top tier restaurants, as well as 160 different retail outlets too. Realistically you could spend your entire week staying there and not even gamble!
